CANADA, October 8, 2026 – Alcohol is a well-established cause of cancer and can have serious consequences for liver health, including cirrhosis and liver disease. Yet awareness of these risks remains low among Canadians.
In today’s Globe and Mail, Dr. Eric Yoshida, Chair of Liver Canada’s Medical Advisory Board, and co-authors are making the case for clear health warning labels on alcoholic beverages. Bill S-202, currently before Parliament, would require alcohol products to include warnings about risks including cancer, cirrhosis, mental health concerns and addiction.
At Liver Canada, we support greater awareness of the connection between alcohol and liver health. Providing Canadians with clear, evidence-based information about the risks of alcohol can help them make informed choices about their health.
