It was called non-A non-B hepatitis for most of the 1970s and 1980s until the hepatitis C virus was first identified in 1989. Hepatitis C is spread through blood-\r\nto-blood contact. HCV is completely unrelated to either hepatitis A virus or hepatitis B virus.
