For women, this risk can increase during midlife, when shifts in metabolism, weight distribution and insulin resistance can all affect liver health. At the same time, many cases are preventable through early awareness and small, sustained lifestyle changes.

Experts point to practical steps that can help reduce risk, including maintaining a balanced diet, staying physically active, moderating alcohol intake and speaking with healthcare providers about liver health during and after menopause. However, the survey findings suggest these conversations are not happening often enough.

“Greater awareness is an important first step,” added Nebesky. “With the right information and support, women can take meaningful action to protect their liver health at every stage of life.”

Full survey report available upon request.

Media Contact

To arrange an interview with Holly Nyenkamp with Liver Canada, please contact:

Sophia Wojdak
SWojdak@syntaxstrategic.ca

About Liver Canada

Liver Canada (LC), formerly the Canadian Liver Foundation, was established in 1969 by business leaders and doctors who believed liver disease needed a champion.
