From an early age, Nikki\u2019s parents shared the importance of giving back to her community. So, when asked at school how she would be celebrating Lent, Nikki decided to make a positive impact in the lives of Canadians affected by liver disease. <\/span>And with that, Nikki is on a mission to give back \u2013 one bracelet at a time!<\/span>\r\n\r\nWe sat down with Nikki to learn more about her <\/span>fundraising initiative<\/span> and to hear why she\u2019s raising funds for liver health.<\/span>\r\n\r\nLiver Canada:<\/i><\/b><\/span> Tell us more about your fundraiser.<\/span><\/i>\r\n\r\nNikki:<\/b><\/span> In my religion class, we were learning about Lent and my teacher asked us to share what we were giving up [for Lent], or if we were making a promise through Lent. I thought about it for a bit and thought that it would be great to give back. Since I love making bracelets, I thought I could sell them and then donate all the money that I earn to Liver Canada.<\/span>\r\n\r\nI picked bracelets because I\u2019m good at making them and I can customize or pick the colours that I feel go best with the person. Everyone is unique, so every bracelet is also unique.<\/span>\r\n\r\nLiver Canada:<\/i><\/b><\/span> Why Liver Canada?<\/span><\/i>\r\n\r\nNikki:<\/b><\/span> I have a connection to liver disease through two very special people in my life \u2013 my parents. My Dad has <\/span>Wilson\u2019s Disease<\/span><\/a> and my mom had <\/span>non-alcoholic fatty liver disease<\/span><\/a>. As I get older, I am learning more about liver disease and how it affects people in different ways.<\/span>\r\n\r\nLiver Canada is very important to my family, and I\u2019ve heard from my parents how the work that they do helps members of the community.<\/span>\r\n\r\nPeople need to know that liver disease can happen to anyone and that\u2019s scary to know. My parents have told me how amazing our livers are \u2013 did you know your liver has over 500 functions? That\u2019s amazing!
