Every 30 seconds, a hepatitis-related illness claims a life, with more than <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.3 million lives lost<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> each year to hepatitis B and C.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liver Canada joins the global push to prioritize those affected by viral hepatitis and calls for increased access to prevention, testing, and treatment. More than 350 million people are living with viral hepatitis globally, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldhepatitisalliance.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nine in 10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> people are unaware of their diagnosis.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canada has signed on to the World Health Organization (WHO)\u2019s global viral hepatitis strategy, with the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionhepatitiscanada.ca\/progressreport.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canadian organizations have several asks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for federal, provincial, and municipal leaders to achieve this result.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canadian facts related to viral hepatitis:<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An estimated 204,000 people in Canada were living with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/infographic-people-living-with-hepatitis-c.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chronic hepatitis C in 2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hepatitis B and C are among Canada\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionhepatitiscanada.ca\/whd.html\"><b>most burdensome infectious diseases<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 measured in years of life lost and in costs to our health-care system.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hepatitis B and C are linked to liver cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Action Hepatitis Canada\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionhepatitiscanada.ca\/progressreport.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2023 Progress Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, and Yukon are not on track to meet the 2030 target for elimination.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Viral hepatitis disproportionately <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/infographic-people-living-with-hepatitis-c.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">affects marginalized populations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increasing education and awareness is an important step in the elimination of viral hepatitis. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/liver.ca\/liver-diseases-complications\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn more about viral hepatitis here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>","remove_heading_underline":false}],"tldr":"","story":"","bg_colour":"none","story_pretitle":"","story_title":"","story_text":"","story_image":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3570","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/5"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3570"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3570\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5065,"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3570\/revisions\/5065"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3570"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3570"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/liver.ca\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3570"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
