It was May 2010, I was sitting at my desk at work when I started to get dizzy and fade in and out. I was thinking maybe I just needed a break from my computer. I looked down and took a few breaths and when I opened my eyes, I was staring at my feet which were completely swollen, I looked at my hands and they were also swollen. Right at that moment I knew something was not right. I headed to a walk-in clinic since at the time I didn't have a doctor. The doctor at the clinic wanted to run blood work -- I'm good with that. He told me he wasn't sure why I was swollen but if my blood work came back abnormal he would call. A couple days later I got a call, "I need to see you"  -- the dreaded words. I went in and he told me that my liver function testing had come back abnormal. This started a parade of doctors appointments and blood testing. It turned out I have fatty liver disease, this was discovered after an ultrasound and they said I had severe to moderate filtration. I finally was able to get in to see my Hepatologist Dr Mike Wong in Winnipeg. He told me I needed to lose weight. We discussed the functions of the liver, what he thought was happening. He gave me 6 months to lose weight and make some changes and then we will would take it from there. I went back in 6 months which happened to be only 1 month ago ( March 02, 2012) and he told me that my liver function 6 months previous was 168 and that because I have changed my diet and started to exercising it has dropped it to 28 (normal function). He was thrilled. I had taken the time to learn about the liver and how if treated properly and not taken for granted that it could repair. I stopped eating excessive sugar (anything added) I have added more fresh raw veggies and fruits and have started to walk on a regular basis. It hasn't taken much. I feel healthier, Happier and more ALIVE. I have Fatty Liver Disease and this is a fact, but I will not let it have ME.
