On January 5th 2013, my daughter Lily was born but my excitement for the birth of my baby girl was quickly replaced by fear and worry. Her skin was yellow. At three months she was diagnosed with biliary atresia and underwent a surgical procedure called the Kasai to restore her damaged bile ducts. Unfortunately the procedure failed. When she was almost eight months old Lily received a portion of my liver. Within hours of her surgery, Lily’s skin turned pink -- a colour I hadn't seen for what felt like an eternity.
Finding cures for liver diseases like biliary atresia means absolutely everything to me and for this reason I'm supporting the Canadian Liver Foundation’s efforts to raise funds for research and education. I encourage all of you to do the same by making a donation here
