Toronto LIVERight Gala, 2017

A Fundraiser in Support of Liver Research and Education

On FridayNovember 3, 2017, the Canadian Liver Foundation will host the 16th annual LIVERight Gala featuring Canadian music legend Randy Bachman of the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive performing at the Palais Royale.

Beat the odds.

Nathan Zabolotney & Brock Chessell are our special guests at the Gala. For more on their stories please click here.

If your odds of winning the lottery were 1 in 4, you would rush to buy a ticket. But what if those same odds represented your chance of developing a serious liver disease? Suddenly, ‘beating the odds’ becomes a matter of life and death. 1 in 4 are the odds facing an estimated eight million Canadians from infants to seniors. But with your help, we can change them. This event will raise funds for liver research, education and support programs for Canadians of all ages affected by liver disease.

Brock ChessellBrock is a very active 11 year old boy. He plays AAA Baseball, Hockey and loves fishing.

In April of 2017 his mom Julie was worried that he was loosing weight. They went to the pediatrician who found that his liver was enlarged. He showed no signs of being sick.

He started chemotherapy in May 2017 because there was a mass on his liver. Doctors are trying to shrink the mass.
In the meantime, Brock has been placed on the liver transplant list and the family is looking for a liver from a deceased person.

Brock's mom Julie is a nurse in Stratford and she is eager to share Brock's story to help raise awareness.

Come meet Brock and his family at the Gala.

Nathan & MomNathan Zabolotney was born November 15, 2015 in Hamilton, Ontario.

Like most babies, Nathan was quite jaundiced. He went for photo-therapy treatments for a few weeks but the yellow was not going away. At 5 weeks old, Nathan had a Kasai procedure at McMaster Children's Hospital. Over the next few months the Kasai partially worked allowing Nathan to get bigger for transplant assessment. In May of 2016, Nathan's health dramatically declined and his liver began to fail. On June 15, 2016, Nathan had a liver transplant at Sick Kid's Hospital in Toronto; his mom Alicia was his living donor.

Now, Nathan is a happy, healthy 19 month old who easily keeps up with other kids his age.

Come meet Nathan and his family at the Gala.
